Kitesurfing on Koh Phangan

One of the best beginner-friendly kite spots in Thailand

Kite Club Koh Phangan sits directly on Thong Sala Beach (GPS 9.9320°N, 100.0647°E) — a reef-protected flat-water lagoon in the Gulf of Thailand. The SE trade winds deliver consistent winds from February to April — typically 10–22 knots, with March being the strongest and most consistent month. Sandy bottom, 28 °C water, shallow for 100+ metres — one of the safest teaching environments in Southeast Asia. A second season runs May–September with SW monsoon winds at Thong Sala and Baan Tai.

IKO & IWO certified school

All instructors hold IKO (International Kiteboarding Organization) and IWO certifications. Our multilingual team teaches in English, Russian, Arabic, German and Ukrainian. Established in 2021, we have trained hundreds of riders from complete beginner to independent level. Courses from 3,500 THB include all equipment and a personal progression plan.

Two wind seasons · seven months of riding

Unlike Andaman Sea spots where the SE monsoon kills the wind in May, Koh Phangan's Gulf position gives it two distinct seasons: SE trade winds February–April (flat, glassy lagoon at Thong Sala — ideal for beginners and all levels) and SW monsoon May–September (Thong Sala and Baan Tai, choppier but strong). December–January adds a third window at Chaloklum on the north shore for advanced riders in NE winds.

Most beginners reach independent riding in 6–10 hours — typically 3–5 days. The Discovery Course (2h) covers kite control and body drag. The Full Beginner Course (6h/3 days) takes you to first water rides. The Independent Rider Course (10h/5 days) gets you riding upwind on your own with an IKO certificate. Progress depends on wind conditions and prior board sport experience.

Yes — Koh Phangan is one of the best places to learn in Southeast Asia. Thong Sala Beach has a reef-protected flat-water lagoon, sandy bottom, 15–28 knots of consistent SE trade wind from February to April, and 28°C water. The flat water means beginners spend more time riding and less time recovering from crashes compared to most other kite destinations.
