Koh Phangan Wind & Weather Guide
Two Kite Seasons
SE Trade Winds (February–April) — the main kitesurfing season. Consistent 12–25 kn from the SE with flat water at Thong Sala. March and April average 20+ rideable days. Best for beginners.
SW Monsoon (June–September) — variable 10–20 kn from the SW. Works at Thong Sala and Baan Tai. More challenging, suitable for intermediate riders.
Reading the Radar
The radar loop is from the Thai Meteorological Department and updates every 10 minutes. Green/yellow returns indicate moderate rainfall; red/purple indicate heavy cells. Koh Phangan sits in the Gulf of Thailand — watch for squall lines approaching from the west during the SW monsoon.
Best kitesurfing: wind 15–25 kn from SE, no active radar returns nearby. Check live wind above before booking via WhatsApp.
