Quick Answers

Common Questions

Is Koh Phangan good for beginners?
Yes. The SE season (mid-January to April) delivers flat, shallow water at Thong Sala with consistent side-onshore winds — ideal conditions for learning. IKO-certified instruction, radio helmets, and safety floats make it one of the safest learning environments in Southeast Asia. Most students complete their first solo ride within a 3-day beginner course.
What are the best months to kitesurf in Koh Phangan?
February, March and April are the peak months — SE trade winds bring the flattest water and most consistent sessions at Thong Sala. March is typically the strongest month. For the SW season, July and August are the most reliable.
Which wind direction works at Thong Sala?
SE and E winds (peak season) create perfect side-onshore conditions at Thong Sala — the flattest, safest angle. SW winds (Jun–Sep) also work at Thong Sala but create slightly more chop. NE and N winds are not suitable for Thong Sala; those days the north-coast spot Chaloklum activates.
Can you kitesurf year-round in Koh Phangan?
Not year-round. October and November are transition/off-season months with insufficient wind. May is unpredictable — SW is building but not yet reliable. The two active seasons are SE (mid-Jan to Apr) and SW (Jun–Sep). E-foil sessions run year-round as no wind is needed.
How strong is the wind in Koh Phangan?
SE season (Feb–Apr): typically 10–20 knots, with lighter days around 10–14 kts and stronger days reaching 18–22 kts. SW season (Jun–Sep): variable 10–22 knots, strongest in July–August (10am–3pm window). Wind is rarely constant all day — morning and afternoon sessions are typical.

Season FAQ

Two main seasons: SE trade winds mid-January–April (typically 10–20 kts, flat water at Thong Sala, peak in March–April) and SW monsoon June–September (10–22 kts variable, Thong Sala and Baan Tai; July–August most reliable). December–January brings NE winds — best at Chaloklum on the north shore. May and October–November are transition months — less predictable.

February, March and April — flattest water at Thong Sala, most consistent SE winds (typically 12–20 kts), best chance of completing all lesson days without rescheduling. Book accommodation and lessons at least 2 weeks early during March–April.

Wing foil requires 12+ knots. Both the SE (Feb–Apr) and SW (May–Sep) seasons provide enough wind. October–November often drop below this threshold. E-foil sessions are available year-round as no wind is needed.

We reschedule kite and wing foil lessons at no charge when conditions are not suitable. We monitor the forecast daily and contact you the evening before. Extended low-wind periods during peak SE season (Feb–Apr) are rare — typically 1–2 lighter days per month.
