Why Baan Tai for Intermediate & Advanced Riders
Baan Tai sits 3 km south of Thong Sala on Koh Phangan's west coast. During the SW monsoon (May–September), the wind hits Baan Tai at a true side-shore angle — cleaner than at Thong Sala where the same SW wind is partly offshore. This means more consistent pressure, better upwind angles, and stronger gusts.
The beach has more open water downwind — longer runs before you need to tack back. Experienced riders can run 200–400 m before turning. The water is choppier than Thong Sala's protected lagoon, typically 0.3–0.8 m chop, which rewards proper kite trim and edge control.
In July and August, sustained SW at 18–24 knots is common. This is Koh Phangan's best freeride window. Advanced riders can generate serious speed and pull off jumps and transitions.

Baan Tai Spot FAQ
No — Baan Tai is an intermediate and advanced spot. The SW monsoon conditions include chop and stronger gusts that require confident water re-launches and upwind riding. Beginners should always start at Thong Sala Beach where our IKO-certified school operates with flat-water conditions.
At Baan Tai the SW wind arrives at a true side-shore angle — giving better lift, cleaner pressure, and stronger average speeds than Thong Sala where the same SW wind is partly offshore. Baan Tai also has more open water downwind for longer freeride runs. The tradeoff is choppier water and no school infrastructure on site.
Minimum ~14 knots for a 12m kite. In July–August, Baan Tai regularly delivers 18–24 knots SW. Wind builds from 10am and peaks 12–4pm. Always check a local forecast (Windy, Windguru) for Thong Sala — Baan Tai typically receives 2–4 kts more due to the cleaner angle.
