Thong Sala Beach
Why It Works
Thong Sala Beach is the social and logistical hub of Koh Phangan — 10 minutes from the main ferry pier. The lagoon in front of the beach is the reason kitesurfers keep coming back: flat water, sandy bottom, knee-deep entry, and a long stretch free of boat traffic.
The SE trade wind tracks through the Gulf of Thailand from February through April, hitting Thong Sala at 15–28 knots with remarkable consistency. It is the same wind that made Hua Hin and Pranburi famous — but without the crowds.
Water temperature stays between 28–30°C all year. No wetsuit needed. The warm water and soft sandy bottom make falling much more comfortable for beginners.

Kitesurfing on
Koh Phangan
Koh Phangan has quietly become one of Southeast Asia's best kitesurfing destinations. Unlike the overcrowded spots of Phuket or the choppier waters off Koh Samui, Thong Sala Beach on Koh Phangan offers beginners something rare: a wide, shallow, flat-water lagoon with consistent wind and almost no boat traffic.
The SE trade wind season (February–April) brings 15–28 knot winds with impressive consistency. This is enough wind to learn comfortably, but not so much as to be intimidating. The lagoon at Thong Sala faces the SE wind, making it an almost perfect teaching environment.
Kite Club Koh Phangan is based permanently at Thong Sala Beach. We operate year-round — teaching beginners in the main season and conducting private coaching, refresh lessons, and advanced sessions outside peak months.
Why Koh Phangan
Beats Competitors
Koh Phangan offers several advantages over other Thai kitesurfing destinations. Koh Samui has the airport but rougher water and more boat traffic. Hua Hin is excellent for kitesurfing but lacks the island lifestyle. Pranburi is strong on wind but remote. Koh Phangan combines reliable wind, flat water, and a relaxed island community in one place.
The island has grown into a year-round watersports community. Beyond kitesurfing, wing foil, e-foil, SUP, and kayaking are all on offer — making it easy to stay active even on lighter-wind days.
As IKO and IWO certified instructors, we follow international teaching standards. Courses are recognised worldwide — your IKO card from Koh Phangan is valid at any IKO school globally.

We teach at Thong Sala Beach — the main beach of Thong Sala town on the southwest side of Koh Phangan. It is 10 minutes by car from the ferry pier. The flat-water lagoon in front of the beach is our primary teaching area.
Very much so. The shallow flat-water lagoon means you spend more time on your feet and less time swimming back to shore. The sandy bottom is soft. There are no rocks or reef in the teaching area. Radio helmet coaching means your instructor can guide you in real time while you are on the water.
